TO ATTEND: Gabriela Maj's 'The Almond Garden' @ Daylight Project Space
Posted by Joseph Bensimon on
Join us at the opening reception for Gabriela Maj's exhibition 'Almond Garden'. Made over the course of four years, Maj's project is the largest record documenting the experiences of incarcerated women in Afghanistan to date. Consisting of a series haunting portraits of the inmates along with the inmates' own stories, the voices in 'Almond Garden' testify to the human rights abuses many Afghan women continue to endure. Friday, July 3, 6-9pm @ Daylight Project Space: 121 W Margaret Ln. Hillsborough, NC See the Facebook event page here.

Posted by Joseph Bensimon on
"Your identity, your sense of self is about as big an issue as anything else. It's something we all have to deal with every day... When you get up in the morning, what do you put on? What does it mean? How do you present yourself? What do you see when you look in the mirror?" Mariette Pathy Allen discusses her projects focusing on transgender people and communities with the San Francisco Chronicle. TransCuba, Allen's most recent project, is currently on view at Rayko Photo Center, in San Francisco, CA. Read the full article here!
