Join us at the opening reception for Gabriela Maj's exhibition 'Almond Garden'. Made over the course of four years, Maj's project is the largest record documenting the experiences of incarcerated women in Afghanistan to date. Consisting of a series haunting portraits of the inmates along with the inmates' own stories, the voices in 'Almond Garden' testify to the human rights abuses many Afghan women continue to endure. Photographer Gabriela Maj will be discussing the work from her recently released monograph in upcoming events on the West Coast. A series of portraits from the women's prisons in Afghanistan, 'Almond Garden' features Maj's haunting, compassionate photographs of the inmates along with the inmates own stories. Made over the course of four years, Maj's project is the largest record documenting the experiences of incarcerated women in Afghanistan to date.
