BOOK SIGNING – ZALMAÏ: 'Dread and Dreams'

Zalmaï will be signing copies of 'Dread and Dreams' at The 27th International Festival of Photojournalism, Visa Pour L'Image, Perpignan, France on September 4th from 5-6pm. The Afghan-born photographer was forced to flee to Switzerland at the age of 15 after the 1980 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. As a freelance photographer, Zalmaï has spent years capturing the human cost of war around the world and in his home country, Afghanistan, where he also sees signs of hope. 'Dread and Dreams' brings together photographs Zalmaï made between 2008 and 2013 against the backdrop of the 14-year U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan that culminated in 2014...

TO ATTEND: Gabriela Maj's 'The Almond Garden' @ Daylight Project Space

Join us at the opening reception for Gabriela Maj's exhibition 'Almond Garden'. Made over the course of four years, Maj's project is the largest record documenting the experiences of incarcerated women in Afghanistan to date. Consisting of a series haunting portraits of the inmates along with the inmates' own stories, the voices in 'Almond Garden' testify to the human rights abuses many Afghan women continue to endure.
