TO ATTEND: FOTOBOOK FESTIVAL KASSEL

This year's Fotobook Festival Kassel features workshops, portfolio & book reviews, a book market, book exhibitions, and more! The festival's main program has three areas: On June 5th, the focus will be on current developments in photobooks from Spain and Portugal, with renowned photographers and curators. June 6th will be dedicated to authors and publishers of interesting fresh photobook releases. And June 7th will be dedicated to the man who has contributed more to the importance of the photobook than anybody else: Martin Parr. Festivities will also include parties, DJs and barbecues. TO ATTEND: Gabriela Maj 'Almond Garden' - Artist Talks & Book Signings

Photographer Gabriela Maj will be discussing the work from her recently released monograph in upcoming events on the West Coast. A series of portraits from the women's prisons in Afghanistan, 'Almond Garden' features Maj's haunting, compassionate photographs of the inmates along with the inmates own stories. Made over the course of four years, Maj's project is the largest record documenting the experiences of incarcerated women in Afghanistan to date. Together, the voices in 'Almond Garden' testify to the human rights abuses many Afghan women continue to endure, and serve as a call for much-needed support from the international community in the...
