CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: 2014 International Photography Competition
Posted by Daylight Books on
Jennifer Blessing, Senior Curator of photography at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City will be the juror of Photo Review magazine’s 2014 International Photography Competition. This is a great opportunity for emerging artists to gain viewership of the work. The work of prize-winning photographers will be shown Photo Review magazine, online, and in an exhibition at The University of the Arts, Philadelphia. In the past, winners of the competition have used this exposure to launch their own solo show, reproduce their work in other well-regarded photography magazines, and sell their work to prominent buyers.
DEADLINE: June 20th, 2014
To learn more about this competition, visit Photo Review’s website.
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Somerville Toy Camera Festival
Posted by Daylight Books on
Somerville Toy Camera Festival is currently seeking submissions of images made by toy cameras for their June event this year. This event features images made by any “low-end, low-tech, limited-control camera such as a pinhole, Holga, Diana, and other Lomo products”, which showcase images made when photographers loosen their control over the medium. This year, the festival will take in place in five galleries in Somerville.
DEADLINE: April 22nd, 2014
For more information, check out the festival website.
TO SEE: History’s Shadow
Posted by Daylight Books on
History’s Shadow is the first show of American artist David Maisel. The show features images of x-rays taken of antique sculptures from time he spent at the Getty Research Institute. In both the process of making these images as well presenting them Maisel engages in conversations of the transformation of material and the legacy of memory. The images themselves have a spectral quality to them: the soft white outlines of objects are striking against a black background.
For more information about the show, visit the gallery’s website.
