JUST PUBLISHED: Tsunami, Photographs, and Then: Lost Found Project by Munemasa Takahashi
Posted by Daylight Books on
Tsunami, Photographs, and Then: The Lost and Found Project is the first book of young Japanese photographer Munemasa Takahashi, although the photos featured in it aren’t his. Instead, the book showcases thousands of images lost by victims of the 2011 Tsunami that wrought havoc on the Tohoku coast of Japan in 2011. Over the course of the last three years, Takahashi has worked alongside the Lost Found Project, a group that hopes to return household objects to those affected by the Tsunami, to clean and digitize hundreds of thousands of images salvaged from the area. The images featured in this book are those damaged beyond recognition that could not be returned to their owners.
To learn more, visit Takahashi’s website.

ON DISPLAY: LETA, Champ de Mars, Port-au-Prince
Posted by Daylight Books on
If you happen to be hanging out in Port-au-Prince this Friday, be sure to take a walk along the outside wall of the University of Ethnology where Paolo Woods will be displaying his work LETA. This work explores notions of the state in contemporary Haiti in attempts to dismantle the common “iconography of disaster” associated with the country. The show is finally circling back to Port-au-Prince after appearances in museums in Switzerland and the US.
WHEN: April 25th, at 5:00pm. The instillation will remain up for as long as weather and human intervention permit
WHERE: the Champ de Mars, on the outside walls of the University of Ethnology (Faculté d’Ethnologie)
