2014 Dummy Award
Posted by Daylight Books on
The annual International Photobook Dummy Award is now accepting applications – (as of yet) unpublished photobook dummies. Held in conjunction with the International Fotobookfestival, the Photobook Dummy Award offers photographers a chance to not only have their book projects examined by top dogs in the industry, but also the chance to receive a publishing contract with the German publisher k-books along with a feature in the art magazine European Photography. The 50 dummies that make the shortlist will be showcased internationally.
IMPORTANT NOTE: “Unpublished” means all books published digitally, self-published or through a photobook publishing platform such as “BLURB.”

M + B Presents Hannah Whitaker
Posted by Daylight Books on
Hannah Whitaker's first solo show in Los Angeles entitled Cold Wave opens tonight, March 15th, 2014. Influenced by the Austrian logician Kurt Gödel, who introduced the notion of unknowability to mathetmatics (a discipline often characterized by certainty), Whitaker began approaching the film plane as a formal system comprised of limited variables and operations. The results of her intellectual inquiries are breathtaking fractured depictions of subjects suspended between the viewers sense of what is 'real' and what can be recognized with certainty, a woman's face for example, and what is considered 'anti-real' - a portrait that neither bends to the logic of proportions or dimension.
Cold Wave runs through April 26th, 2014.
