COUNT DOWN: 3 Days Left to Submit to Showcase in Singapore
Posted by Daylight Books on
The deadline for the Singapore International Photography Festival is fast approaching with only 3 days left to submit (a penalty fee is applicable for those who choose to submit after deadline). This is SIPF’s 4th edition, and to commemorate the successes of previous festivals, this Open Call Showcase will be held in collaboration with Noorderlicht International Photofestival (The Netherlands) with a themed open call in addition to the existing Open Call.
The Open Call (truly open with no theme) is interested in discovering new and innovative photographic works from around the globe. As there is no specific genre, theme, subject, the Open Call is truly a survey past and present trends, concerns, concepts and techniques employed by the photographers worldwide.
40 photographers will be selected by the 4th SIPF curators - Dr Charles Merewether, Dr Adele Tan, Tay Kay Chin, and Alexander Supartono. Contingent on exhibition sites, each curator will critically select the work, and curate the exhibitions based on theme or subject matters, approaches, or even by geographical region.

SAVE THE DATE: Mona Kuhn’s Acido Dorado
Posted by Daylight Books on
The Flowers Gallery at Kingsland Road will be exhibiting work by acclaimed LA-based photographer, Mona Kuhn. Shot on the modernist property in the American desert of the same name as the exhibition, Acido Dorado, Kuhn assimilates her distinct renderings of surrealist nudes, often abstracted by shadows, overexposure, and an assortment of other optical fragmenting techniques, with the breathtaking beauty of an America architectural and naturalist landmark. Acido Dorado is an evident exploration of the nude’s place in art history and Kuhn’s ability to bring together the nude, abstractions and landscape into a cohesive body of work demonstrate both her artistic and intellectual prowess.

ON DISPLAY: MENTORS
Posted by Daylight Books on
MENTORS, an exhibition currently on display at the School of Visual Arts in NYC features the work of a select group of the institution’s current BFA students – young photographers who are clearly making their mark within the walls of this prestigious conservatory. The exhibition’s theme, as the show’s title indicates, focuses on the students working relationships with leading members of the NYC arts community, experts in their respective fields. From photographer Ryan McGinley and Laurie Simmons, to Director of Photography for The New York Times Magazine Kathy Ryan and Jody Quon, New York Magazine’s Photography Director, students and mentors are paired together to cultivate relationships and introduce new talent into the working NYC art scene. Chair of the BFA Photography Program at SVA explicates, “We seek to provide our students with opportunities that support their growth as professional artists. Working with these mentors offers our students an invaluable learning experience, one that inspires them and challenges them.”
WHERE: SVA Chelsea Gallery, 601 West 26th Street, 15th floor, New York, NY
WHEN: Monday – Saturday, 10AM – 6PM through April 5th
