Gallery owners Michael Foley and Sasha Wolf are thrilled to announce the formation of The Exhibition Lab, a new study center for fine art photography. The Exhibition Lab will provide a vibrant modern-day salon for artists, scholars and others who are interested in engaging the world's diverse and vital photography community through the gateway of New York City.
Classes, in the form of seminars, workshops and semester-long courses, will be offered on subjects geared to practitioners of the medium (i.e., Critique Levels 1 and 2, Book Publishing and Photography Blogging), as well as to those in the academic community (i.e., The Art and Ethics of Documentary Photography and The Philosophy of Being an Artist). The Lab will be a significant contributor to the photography community for a number of reasons. Located in central Chelsea in a new space shared by Sasha Wolf Gallery and Foley Gallery, the Lab will function as a hub for the study of photography outside of traditional academic venues. Its impressive list of committed artists and scholars who will be teaching classes and seminars for the first session speaks for itself. Working in collaboration with Foley and Wolf, these teachers have been encouraged to design their classes and seminars based on their unique expertise and interest.
Currently the teacher's list includes:
Peter Berberian- Owner, Printer, Gotham Imaging
Susan Bright- Curator, Writer
Elinor Carucci - Photographer
Sean Corcoran- Curator, Museum of the City of New York
Stacey Clarkson- Art Director, Harper's Magazine
Jessica Dimmock- Photographer
Nima Etemadi- Assistant Editor, Aperture (books and magazine)
Jon Feinstein- Curator, Founder, Humble Arts Foundation
Michael Foley- Director, Foley Gallery
Peter Kayafas- Photographer, Publisher

Matthew Pillsbury- Photographer
Kira Pollack- Director of Photography, Time Magazine
Gerald Slota- Photographer
Ryan Speth- Owner, Printer, Gotham Imaging

Sasha Wolf- Director, Sasha Wolf Gallery
Classes will be small in size to encourage participation and interaction. The overarching goal of the Lab, in addition to imparting knowledge and fostering dialogue, is to provide fine art photographers with a 'home base,' a place of learning, discourse and community. In addition to its schedule of classes, the Lab will host regular panel discussions followed by informal receptions to encourage further interaction amongst students and teachers.
Credits will be awarded to everyone who takes a class and these credits can be applied to any other class to reduce the tuition fees and encourage re-enrollment.
Michael and Sasha's expertise as gallery owners, and the Lab's location within the walls of two established and celebrated galleries will be the foundation of the Lab's connection to the professional community. Enrollment is ongoing; classes commence in June, 2010.
