2012 DAYLIGHT PHOTOAWARDS WINNER! For four months in 2011, Aaron Vincent Elkaim lived among the residents of Fort McKay in northeastern Alberta, Canada. Fort McKay sits on top of the Athabasca oil sands and is the home of citizens from the Cree and Dene First Nations. The reserve relies almost exclusively on money collected from the extraction of oil. Through his photographic interactions with the population of Fort McKay, Elkaim explores the ways in which they negotiate the contrast of modernity and development with age old traditions. Photographs from 'Sleeping With the Devil' will be on view at the Daylight Project Space from Sept. 28th-Dec. 31st 2012.
