Twenty years after the Nicaraguan civil way ended, Kevin Kunishi traveled throughout the highlands of Northern Nicarague. Kunishi revisits the location in an attempt to discover and document the legacy that this protracted war left behind. A selection of the resulting portraits of survivors, both Sandinistas and Contras, as well as exquisite landscapes are gathered together here in Kunishi's first monograph.

The photographs within Los Restos are notational records of the experience of the collective memory of those involved. Although philosophies, the survivors are now bound by a landscape filled with physical and psychological scars. The markers of affiliation are slowly fading, but the horros of war remain.

Every other April, an international set of photographers and reviewers gather in Portland, Oregon for a five-day celebration of photography that includes lectures, workshops, and exhibition collaborations. Intensive portfolio reviews are at the heart of the Festival. Reviewers are selected for their experience, involvement, and commitment to advancing the work of emerging and mid-career artists.
