PRIX PICTET PHOTOGRAPHY PRIZE SHORT LIST RELEASED

The theme for the Prix Pictet 2009 was Earth. ‘Earth’ in this context refers not only to the planet and the soil beneath our feet, but also to the marks that man makes on the face of the land – either directly by creating mines, toxic waste, vast refuse dumps and blasted desert landscapes; or indirectly, through the scars left by fire, flood or famine.

VEVEY’S INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION WINNERS ANNOUNCED

NATAN DVIR'S 'SHELTER' PROJECT FEATURED IN JUNE PODCAST

'Shelter' is a multi-continent, long-term project by Natan Dvir. These photograph seek to magnify the human dimension of the global crisis of refugees and internally displaced people. The project spans four primary locations including Israel and Colombia. An exhibition of this award-winning project is currently on display at the Houston Center for Photography.ShareThis

IAN PARRY SCHOLARSHIP

Ian Parry was a photojournalist who died whilst on assignment for The Sunday Times during the Romanian revolution in 1989. He was just 24 years old. The scholarship was set up by his friends and family in order to build something positive from such a tragic death. The Ian Parry scholarship is a competition for photographers who are either attending a full-time photography course or are under the age of 24. Entrants must submit a portfolio of their work and a brief synopsis of a project they would undertake if they won the scholarship. The prize is 2,500 towards their assignment.ShareThis

This year's En Foco sessions offered one-on-one reviews with several arts professionals in a supportive, nurturing and affordable environment. Revieers advised about opportunities and provided guidance on career development.
