Photographs Not Taken is a collection of essays by photographers about moments that never became a picture. Conceived and edited by Will Steacy, each photographer was asked to abandon the camera and, instead, use words to recreate the image that never made it through their lens.

The first book signing will be on April 22 (from 2pm-4pm) at MoMA PS1 in Long Island City, Queens, New York.

The second book signing will be on May 11 (from 7:00pm-9pm) at Ampersand in Portland, Oregon.

Photo books are a great way to tell your story. But as many of us know, it is a long and difficult task to get them published and into the book stands. Submit your unpublished book to the 2012 Dummy Awards for a chance to have your book included in the chosen fifty to be exhibited in Paris. One book will be selected for publication by Seltmann and Soehne. Entries close on March 31.

The 50 exhibited books will be selected by a pre-jury. The pre-jury comprises Markus Schaden (Bookseller, Publisher, Cologne), Sebastian Hau (Le Bal Books, Paris), Inga Schneider (International Photobook Festival, Cologne), Laurence Vecten (Lozen Up, Paris), Dieter Neubert (International Photobook Festival, Kassel).

Helsinki Photography BIennial is organized biannually in the spring. For the month of April, the biennial is a month of photography in the Helsinki metropolitan region. Biennial artworks and events will be seen not only in museums and galleries, but also in the public space, spreading east, west as well as north from the city centre.

HPB12 will feature photographic art from Finland as well as abroad. The theme of HPB12 will be urbanity and the city. Through these concepts, the biennial will explore how art meets the city, how the city receives art, and how urbanity is addressed in art. Through photography and moving image works, the festival will examine the core and the boundaries of the city, its points of conflict and places of calm.

In 2012 the biennial is organized in co-operation with Helsinki City Museum and the City of Helsinki Cultural Office.
